The work of search engine optimization has been broadly divided into two major tasks, OnPage and OffPage activities. Both hold its own importance for search engines, OnPage work shows search engine crawlers what exactly your web pages are about and what these pages offer to end users, while OffPage activities includes making links towards your site over Web.
In this post I am sharing my personal experience how you can do OnPage work and make your website search engine friendly. Search engines work on a simple concept of searching the keywords that end-user seek information for in web pages present in their index. OnPage work is the practice to stuff your Keywords in your website content without making it spam.
Before editing the codes of your website you must know the most important search terms for your website. You can use Google Keyword Suggestion Tool for the task. Enter your website URL in keyword tool and analyze all exact, broad and partial match keywords. Select most relevant keywords according to the number of hits in the region you wish to rank your website.

Meta Tags Optimization: The Meta tags of your web page consist of Title, Description, Robots (for static websites) and Keywords. The syntax for Meta are:

<meta name=”keyword” content=”Keyword1, Keyword2, Keyword3,…..”>
<meta name=”robots” content=”index, follow”>
The ideal character limit for meta title is 70 characters, for meta description it is 250 character and for keywords try to limit them under 200 characters because after these limits spider do not crawl the content.
Search engine when crawls your pages checks the Meta data first, always try to make it simple, genuine, unique and informative. Provide unique Meta data for every page of your website with exact information what that page actually shows.
Title Tag Optimization: Optimizing Title Tags is basically showing importance of particular text phrase to crawler as well as readers in your content.

While practicing Title Tag optimization for your website content remember not to load keywords in the tag. Do not optimize all the keywords that appear in content, only work on those that holds some importance from user view point.
Anchor Text Optimization: This is one of the most important works and should be done very carefully. While optimizing the Anchor Text the concept of Landing Page comes into play and it has a very crucial role in SEO. The Anchor Text Keywords must itself explain the page or document it is linked to. You can use Title Tag with Anchor Text Optimization for improving the importance of anchor text.

Image Optimization: Pictures themselves speak more than text. If you are having images on your websites then optimizing them is a good practice for your website. You can add Title Tag to your images, it describes user and crawler what the images are all about. If your image is linked to webpage or document then image optimization is really efficient from SEO point.
Optimizing website images include Title Tag, Landing Page and Alt Tag Optimization. Linking informative images to relevant web pages makes smooth user experience, Title Tags lets user and crawler know about images on your pages while Alt Tag are helpful when the images does not load on browser due to slower internet connection and other problems, the Alt Tag shows the user what these images are all about.

Note: Try to keep same value for alt tag and title tag while optimizing an image.
Load Time Optimization: The amount of time a website takes while it loads on your browser is known as load time. Load time optimization is done while developing websites, try to make pages of smaller size. From SEO point quickly the pages load more pages will be viewed by end-users. Ideally it is good to have your home page of approx 130 KB and internal pages of 180 KB.
Content Optimization: Google have recently rolled page content algorithm refresh so now you need to have a look at content of your web pages. Content includes text, images, videos, audio, multimedia and other informative objects.
The text over your website must not have lot of keywords stuffed in it, the ideal keyword ratio should be 3 to 4 percent. Provide fresh and informative content for users as search engine likes websites having more and more information for users.
Images audio clips, animations and videos providing information to users is really great from SEO point of view. Including them on your pages may increase their size but you have to optimize them with excellence.
